CAP Feed Guide

This guide ( under development ) provides assistance using a CAP enabled RSS/Atom feed. It is based on the following specifications:

Atom based feeds are recommended as they contain more information in a standardized format. Two versions of CAP feeds are available and can be accessed by supplying the applicable filename.

Current

A current feed, usually accessed as feed.atom or feed.rss based on the appropriate format, is the feed type most suitable for public feed readers as it has the most up-to-date information. Current means alerts that are active and haven't been expired, updated, or cancelled.

Full

A full feed, usually accessed as feed-full.atom or feed-full.rss based on the appropriate format, is the feed type designed for CAP aware feed readers as it has the complete history of events. It is considered the authoratative feed type for alerting and is used by broadcast equipment. All recent alerts are individually listed in the feed and it is in chronological order. This allows a CAP aware feed reader to fetch the full history of an event and all its alerts in the order in which they were issued. The full feed also has additional feed elements with more information about the alert. Test messages are also present in the full feed and CAP aware clients should filter the feed entries and alerts accordingly.
